Teaching with Technology: Protecting Privacy in a Digital Classroom
I’ve came to understand of how important it is for teachers to closely consider privacy when utilizing social media and technology in the classroom after learning about the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act which stands for FIPPA. Even something as basic as sharing a class photo online may come under the jurisdiction of the school and be governed by privacy regulations. Instructors must always obtain parents’ or students’ informed consent before sharing or collecting student information, and they must be open and honest about their intentions. And also choosing carefully what personal information to disclose and whether to make content public or private are also important considerations when using platforms such as WordPress for class projects.
